Two years ago I couldn’t write a single line of code. Today I run makuistudio.com — a free coding platform with 30+ lessons across HTML, Python, JavaScript, and AI.

I’m writing this because I want to show beginners that you don’t need a computer science degree, a paid course, or permission to build something real.

What I built

A completely free platform with:

HTML & CSS (10 lessons) — from headers to Flexbox/Grid

Python (10 lessons) — variables to file I/O to a working calculator

AI (10 lessons) — ML basics, neural networks, LLMs, chatbots

JavaScript (Quest 1 live now)

15+ UI snippets — loaders, OTP inputs, dark mode toggles, animated cards

Every lesson includes live code, interactive demos, and challenges. No signup. No ads. No paywall.

Why free?

Because I remember how frustrating it was when I started. Every “beginner tutorial” ended with “now sign up for the full course” or “buy my $497 masterclass.”

I wanted to build the resource I wish I’d had.

The tech stack

Nothing fancy:

Pure HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript

GitHub Pages for hosting

TensorFlow.js for AI demos (runs entirely in the browser)

A custom domain

No frameworks. No backend. No build tools. Everything is static, which means it loads fast and never breaks.

Download the Medium App

What I learned

1. Ship early, ship often. My first lesson was 300 words and hideous. I published it anyway. The 30th lesson is polished because I had 29 practice runs.

2. Interactivity > word count. A 5-line interactive demo teaches more than 500 words of theory.

3. Consistency beats perfection. One lesson per week. Every week. For 6 months.

4. SEO is a slow game, but it works. Google took 3 months to notice me. Now I get steady organic traffic on long-tail keywords like “python lists vs tuples” and “css box model.”

5. Backlinks matter more than I wanted to believe. Great content isn’t enough. You need other sites to vouch for you.

What’s next

Quest 2 for all 4 courses (intermediate topics)

More UI snippets every week

A full showcase where students can submit their own projects

Try it out

If you’re learning to code — or know someone who is — everything is free at:

👉 makuistudio.com

No email required. Just open a lesson and start.

If it helps you, tell a friend. That’s all I ask.

Have feedback? Drop a comment — I read every single one.
